Lauds

Terms of Use

Last updated

Short, because the app is simple: Apple's standard licence, plus what Lauds Pro is and what the texts are.

The licence

Lauds: Daily Prayer (“Lauds”, “the app”) is licensed to you, not sold, by Verto Studios under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the standard EULA). Where these terms say more than the standard EULA, these terms apply; where they conflict, the standard EULA wins.

You may use the app on any iPhone you own or control, under the App Store's usage rules. Do not copy, resell or reverse-engineer the app, and do not strip the source lines or credits from the texts and pictures it shows.

Lauds Pro: subscriptions and the lifetime purchase

Today, the readings, the saint of the day and the widgets are free. Lauds Pro unlocks the guided Rosary, the Litany, the novena, Evening (examen and night prayer), the candle and optional tracking. It is sold as an auto-renewable monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-time lifetime purchase. Prices are shown in the app in your local currency before you buy. There is no trial and no introductory offer.

Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically at the same price unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You manage and cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID settings (iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions); deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's policies at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Family Sharing is enabled for all three products. “Restore purchases” in Settings brings Pro back on any device signed in with the same Apple ID.

If we ever discontinue Lauds Pro, lifetime purchasers keep the features for as long as the app runs on their device, and active subscriptions are not renewed after the notice.

What the content is — and is not

Lauds is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by any diocese, bishops' conference or publisher. The liturgical calendar is computed on your phone for the United States and may differ from your parish or religious community's calendar; the app is an aid to prayer, not an authority on it.

The day's readings are listed by citation. “Read today's readings” opens the USCCB's own page on bible.usccb.org; that page is theirs and subject to their terms. The scripture text the app itself holds is a public-domain translation (Douay-Rheims or the Catholic Public Domain Version), labelled as such, and is not the Mass text. Verse numbering may differ by one from the citation.

Every text and picture in the app is in the public domain or written by us, and the app names the edition: prayers from a 1909 prayer book, Butler's Lives of the Saints (1894), the Catena Aurea (1841–45), paintings from The Metropolitan Museum of Art's open-access collection. Butler's text is shown as printed in 1894, scanner errors included where our checks did not catch them.

The prayer audio is a synthetic voice, generated from the prayer text before the app ships. It is not a recording of a person and the app says so.

Your data

There is no account. What the app keeps on your phone, what reaches Apple and RevenueCat, and what you can delete are set out in the privacy policy, which is part of these terms.

No warranty; limits

The app is provided as it is. We work to keep the calendar, citations and texts correct, but we do not warrant that they are free of error or fit for any particular purpose, and we are not liable for loss arising from reliance on them, to the extent the law allows. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer under the law where you live, or the standard EULA's terms in Apple's favour.

Changes and contact

When these terms change, the date at the top changes with it and the new text is published at this address. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it; if you do not, cancel and stop using the app.

These terms are governed by Danish law. Questions: vertosupport@agentmail.to with “[Lauds]” in the subject.
